Reflective Water

Since water can be highly reflective in the landscape, it often appears like a mirror, reflecting what’s above it or at the water’s edge. But disturbances that cause movement on the water’s surface can make it tricky to paint.

About This Lesson

This lesson will focus on reflections in a still body of water that has a gentle breeze creating ripples. I’ll show and explain in an oil demo how to paint reflections and ripples in this scenario, emphasizing the importance of the initial set up for this subject matter. (Turbulent, moving water is covered in a previous lesson.)

How it Works

Painting the Poetic Landscape monthly lessons give you a unique opportunity to study (virtually) with Barbara Jaenicke. Purchase access to the lesson and you will be provided with a downloadable PDF with a lesson written by Barbara.

After completing the exercise you can upload your painting and within 10 days (often less!) you’ll receive a personalized review of your painting from Barbara.
