Composing the Five-shape Landscape Critique

The composition approach that I teach in this lesson goes way beyond merely finding a focal point. It will not only help you develop a strong design to your paintings, but it will also enable you to simplify and edit right from the start. Yes, the thumbnail will be a pretty big deal in this lesson. But rather than just a quick little drawing, it will serve as a map to guide you through the start of your painting, and you’ll be aware of a very clear objective with the thumbnail.

About This Lesson

In this lesson, I walk you through the thought process, step-by-step, that should take place when you plan out the shapes and proportions that will create the foundation for your painting. I’ll then show you how this foundation should remain visible even after the painting is completed.

How it Works

Painting the Poetic Landscape monthly lessons give you a unique opportunity to study (virtually) with Barbara Jaenicke. Purchase access to the lesson and you will be provided with a downloadable PDF with a lesson written by Barbara.

After completing the exercise you can upload your painting and within 10 days (often less!) you’ll receive a personalized review of your painting from Barbara.
